Pumpkin Discusses Cat Genetics
Posted on August 21 2018
Dudes and Dudettes, it’s me, Pumpkin. Teacher Ms. Robo Kitty is teaching us about cat genetics at Cat School. I was surprised to learn about orange fur.
There is some kind of bizarro interaction of genes that happens. Cats that have the orange pigment gene are impacted by another gene that distributes pigment in the fur.
If this other gene has the dominant version it causes bright orange color such as in my handsome fur. But if this other gene has the recessive version it causes spots on an individual hair with no color – this causes the look of cream color found on Skoog. This blows my mind!
